This Dalit monument 'Rashtriya Dalit Prerana Sthal' was inaugurated on 14 Oct. 2011 by the then UP Chief Minister Mayawati celebrating the day when, in 1956, Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar converted to Buddhism with his lakhs of followers. In Hinduism, there is no equality for human beings. That is why he, who belongs to that community leave it and embraced Buddhism.
Being inspired with Ambedkar and also with the work of other dalit social reformer, Mayawati, a dalit icon and then CM of UP constructed this Park and made open to public to feel them human dignity.
The Rashtriya Dalit Prerana Sthal and a green garden sprawled over total area of 82. 5 acres.
The Park is divided in 3 parts- The Column Plaza, the central Park and the Ambedkar Plaza separated by two water fountains covering 33.43 hectares.
The column Plaza depicts Buddhist architecture. It is designed with several 300 ft high pillars crowned by four-headed elephants.
'The Samajik Parivartan Sangrahalaya(The Ambedkar Plaza) houses a total of 12 Dholpur and Mirzapur stone statues, one of the CM herself and the others of Gautam Buddha, B. R. Ambedkar, Kansiram. Guru Ghasidas, Guru Ravidas, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Kabir, Chhatrapati Sahu Maharaja of Kolhapur, Birsa Munda, Narayan Guru. The memorial is built to pay tribute to the struggle done by these leaders towards social transformation. .
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorials Park(The Central Plaza) houses the dome that has three life size statues of the CM, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Manyavar Kansiramji. It comprises two Stupas and galleries which depict the life history of great personalities and social reformers.
A total of 24 pink sand stone elephants and innumerable smaller ones also stand guard within the park and all the pillars and the facade of the central dome are ornamented with Buddhist motifs.
Keeping with the Supreme Court's guideline, 75% green cover area maintained in the park as well as 7, 600 trees and 1.5 lakhs shrubs are planted. Two green lawns covered with flowering plants like Champa, Kachnnar and Jarul are doveloped near the central Plaza.
The Park mainly has natives trees like Neem, Pilkhan, Peepal, Siras and Jarul. In the area where most statues are installed, some Bottle Palms, Kanak Champa and other flowering plants are planted.
The construction work on the park was started on Jan. 2009.
This place is interwoven with controversies. It drew both bouquets and brickbats from people and media. However, there is no doubt that the Rashtriya Dalit Prerana Sthal and huge green garden is a mesmerizing spot. Its landscape have unique structure.
